Research

In NCL, we are committed to contributing to research that helps to advance the health of women and their babies before, during, and after pregnancy. Therefore, we work closely with clinicians and researchers who ensure clinical research studies relating to the health of women and their babies carried out across NCL are supported, well managed and run to the highest of standards. The research findings are then incorporated into direct clinical care, resulting in better outcomes and health for women and their babies.

How do I get involved in research in the NCL Maternal Medicine Network?

Governance

The model service specification covers the provision of maternal medicine networks (MMNs). MMNs include pre-pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal care for women who have significant medical problems that pre-date or arise in pregnancy or the puerperium.

The criteria for referral has been developed using the NHS England Maternal Medicine Service Specification (2020) as guidance, in consultation with Lead Obstetricians and Physicians within the network. There have been some amendments to reflect local expertise and services across North Central London.

The documents below outline regional pathways and processes.
