Referral
In order to make a referral to one of our Maternal Medicine teams you will need to download and fill out the below referral form and send via email. It is recommended that you refer to the hospital that is closest to the woman, but if you need any guidance regarding the most appropriate hospital for a specific condition, please review the referral guidance under ‘Clinical Resources’ section or contact the team to enquire.
Medical conditions are classified as category A, B or C depending on complexity and thus provide a guide as to a woman’s care pathway.
We strive to ensure that most women with medical complications during pregnancy will continue to be managed by their local maternity hospital within the NCLMMN through the provision of outreach clinics. Only a small number of women with complex medical needs will need to receive all their care and give birth at UCLH Maternal Medicine Centre.
The categories and criteria for referral has been developed using the NHS England Maternal Medicine Service Specification (2020) as guidance, in consultation with Lead Obstetricians and Physicians within the network. There have been some amendments to reflect local expertise and services across North Central London.
MDTs
The NCL Maternal Medicine Network facilitates several multi-disciplinary meetings to review clinical cases.
2nd Monday of month NCL Maternal Medicine Network Meeting: Attended by all maternal medicine teams in the network to discuss category C and complex category B patients.
3rd Tuesday of month UCLH medically high risk MDT: Attended by the maternal medicine team at UCLH to discuss category C and complex category B patients.
Bimonthly Tuesday lunchtime network hot cases: Attended by all maternal medicine teams and invited specialist clinicians to discuss individual current case(s).
1st Tuesday of month NCL Cardiac MDT: Attended by all maternal medicine teams and NCL cardiologists to discuss cardiac cases from across the network.
